About me

In my photography, I am drawn to subjects that have a monumental scale such as architecture and landscapes. When I encounter these forms in my travels, I am humbled by their grandeur and endurance. I hope to impart this same sense of awe to my audiences with the work that I do.

I strive to make each one of images powerful individually; however, when I present my work in gallery series or in books, I try to arrange the images so that they collectively tell a story to the viewer. I have been inspired by the early Soviet photographers and their ability to convey complex ideals and ideas to their audiences through pictures. Similarly, I am moved by the work of Ed Burtynsky and his documentation of the human impact on the landscape.

When possible, I prefer to shoot film and to process and develop the images myself. In this way I can be surer of telling the story that I intend to tell, rather than one that is imputed by mechanical printing processes.
